How To Be Happy

What do I need to do to be happy?

It’s the question we all ask ourselves.

We search for it in every nook and cranny of the universe. It seems to elude us, but it’s hiding in plain sight. The only way to be happy is to love what you have.

When you get what you want you think it makes them happy, but the only thing that makes you happy is a choice.

When we get the things we want we finally give ourselves permission to be happy. The change always happens on the inside.

It’s so obvious yet so difficult at the same time. We all know that happiness lies inside of us, but we can’t help but search for it on the outside. Insanity is doing the same thing and expecting different results.

Happiness tips

I have times where I feel insane. I’m sure you do too. We’re always chasing after “ifs”

If I…

Make a lot of money.

Travel the world.

Find the right career.

Find the right partner.

THEN I will be happy.

When you were a kid you were happy just to be here. The only thing that mattered was the present moment. Maybe that’s the key to happiness –The curiosity and short memory of a child. Smiling one minute and crying the next, but never “worried” or “stressed.” Just living.

Somewhere along the line we’re robbed of the type of innocence that makes life great. We learn to “set goals” and “make smart decisions.” Maybe the smart decision is not caring. Maybe the smart decision is loosening the grip on the steering wheel and letting your life go into cruise for a little while.

I want to be great. I want to reach my goals. I want to leave a legacy. I think we all want that.

But maybe the first step is accepting life as it is in this moment. Are you waiting on a future that’s never going to come? Every step of the way the plans I’ve made…have not gone to plan. Maybe the smart thing to do is put all of your effort into every single moment and just let things pan out how they’re intended to.

Not reckless, but not rigid either. Loose and free like a child but determined at the same time.

Is there a way to balance achievement and contentment? I think so.

We’re put on this earth to do great things, but we’re also put on this earth to be great people. You’re not successful unless you have both.

This is an incomplete thought. A practice of sorts. Maybe it doesn’t have to be well-written and great. Maybe I should be happy to create no matter what the outcome. Maybe you should, too.
